Course Objectives

This course introduces students to the main elements of organizational behaviour and organization theory relevant for understanding and managing organizational processes and structures. The approach integrate models and concepts from organizational economics, organizational sociology and cognitive psychology in a problem solving oriented fashion. Specifically,  students learn about: human behavior in organized contexts - decision making, motivation, communication; coordination modes - e.g. authority, teams, negotiation, rules; the organization of work; the internal and external organization of the firm.

  • Organizational coordination: communication, negotiation, teaming, authority and agency, rules and norms
  • Organizational structures: the organization of work, the internal structure of the firm, interfirm networks

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods

Exam for attending students

Attending students are evaluated on a written exam based on theory and case analysis. The exam will be structured in three parts according to course structure. The relevant parts of the text are those indicated in the Syllabus. The grade obtained in the written exam may be increased up to 3 points for class participation and may be integrated by an oral colloquium. The exam can be taken in any exam session. Points gained for class participation expire 30th Sept 2010.

Non attending students are evaluated on a written exam based on theory and case analysis. The exam will be structured in three parts according to course structure. The relevant parts of the text are those indicated in the Syllabus.
