EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN THE STUDY PLANS

3.1.
Compulsory courses
Every program structure includes compulsory courses for exams which must be passed by students enrolled in that study program. Compulsory courses are needed in order to satisfy the study program requirements; they are the fundamental building blocks for achieving the program's educational objectives. According to current regulations these educational activities can be classified as: "basic", "characteristic" of the program's field of study or "similar or supplementary to the characteristic ones", with special regard to cultural context and interdisciplinary education, as well as "independently decided upon by the University". Chapter 2 contains a section devoted to each undergraduate degree program where students can find the detailed program structure with the list of all compulsory courses, their credit point value and positioning in the years of studies.
Compulsory course exams can be taken in universities abroad as part of the programs offered by the International Relations Service. No credits will be given to students who have taken exams which are "not recognized" (see chapter 5.14, paragraph "Credit for exams passed at universities abroad"). Exams can be recognized either in full or partially after the course program has been integrated. The list of exams which are "not recognized" is available on the website at http://www.unibocconi.it/exams3 in List of compulsory exams which are "not recognized".
Course profiles are available on the website.
These profiles are identified with the following initials: CC compulsory course of the study program CO compulsory course chosen as an alternative to another compulsory course for the same study program.
Detailed course programs (course syllabuses) are available from the secretary's office of the Institute responsible for the course, and are usually handed out by teachers in the classrooms on the first days of lessons.

3.2.
Elective courses
Elective courses are chosen by students for their individual study plans, chosen from among the group of courses offered by the University and/or offered in collaboration with other universities.
These courses are part of the "educational activities freely chosen by the student" in accordance with current regulations.
The program structures of all undergraduate degree programs offered by Bocconi require students to choose 2 elective courses, with the exception of the DIEM where students must choose 4 elective courses.
For the undergraduate degree programs CLEA, CLAPI, CLEFIN, CLELI, DES, CLEMIT and CLSG students must choose:
- the first elective from among the restricted group of courses offered for the study program;
- the second elective from among the broad group of courses, made up of all the restricted groups (including those offered by their own program) as well as some courses that are not included in the restricted group for various undergraduate degree programs (see note at the end of paragraph 3.2.10).
CLEACC students must choose both electives from the broad group.
DIEM students must choose:
- the first 2 electives from the restricted group;
- the other 2 from the broad group.
The exams for electives can be taken at universities abroad as part of the programs offered by the International Relations Service. Students can receive credit for the exams recognized either in full or partially after the course program has been integrated. Exams equivalent to electives offered by Università Bocconi can be taken abroad, while electives not equivalent to courses offered by Università Bocconi can only be taken as part of the Exchange Program, in particular cases. In this case students must obtain approval from the Program Director or his/her delegate prior to departure for the partner university abroad.
Students choose their electives when they enroll in the third year of studies, following the procedure described in Chapter 7 "Continuing studies".
Before choosing their electives students are advised to consult the "Table of incompatible courses" and the "Table of banned courses" that can be found in the appendix. The "Table of incompatible courses" indicates the courses that cannot be chosen together in the same study plan because their course programs are either exactly or partly similar. The "Table of banned courses" indicates the courses that cannot be included in the study plan of a specific program.
The following list contains all the electives included in the restricted groups for each undergraduate degree. Every elective is awarded 6 credit points. With regard to educational objectives of the undergraduate degree programs, the list of electives in the restricted group may be subject to changes decided on by the organs of administration.

3.3.2.1.
First foreign language for all undergraduate degree programs except the DIEM
Program structure position and credit points The first foreign language is positioned in the second year of the program structure.
The objective of the course is to provide students with the skills to use the language in a general context.
The language path offered by the University takes place in the first and second years of Undergraduate programs.
The course is assigned 6 credit points, which are awarded to students when they pass the exam or after the submission and registration in their academic career of one of the international language certifications recognized by the University (see Paragraph 3.3.4 "Method of assessing foreign language knowledge"). The assessment of foreign language knowledge is marked out of thirty and the mark is included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA).
Method of choosing a first foreign language
English (for students who are not English native speakers) Università Bocconi has identified the recommended entry requirements to ensure that students are adequately prepared to attend the curricular English language courses. The requirements are level B1 of the Common European Framework for Language Competence (see paragraph 3.3.1 "The Common European Framework"). On the Internet site at http://www.unibocconi.it/languagecentre in Language Teaching > Undergraduate Programs - III year students can find detailed information regarding the language knowledge and competence required and self-study programs to assist them in reaching the indicated level based on their initial preparation.
Initial evaluation test On the same day as the aptitude selection test, all non-native English speakers should have also taken an English language test. On the basis of this test, the student's ideal language path is assigned for the first year of studies.
The Language learning path The educational activities designed to assist students in learning English are organized by the Language Centre. These activities include both C1 and B2 level curricular courses and preparatory modules for students who have not yet acquired sufficient linguistic competence. The University proposes an individual, personalized learning plan upon enrolment based on the student's initial language level. For absolute beginners the following paths are offered:

Since first and second-year courses are no longer offered for the 2007-2008 a.y., two B2 level repeat class groups are being offered for third-year students who have an English exam debit (one class group for each semester). Students can sign up via the yoU@B student diary according to the following periods: first semester class group: 1 August - 28 September 2007; second semester class group: 7-31 January 2008. Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis for a maximum of 100 students per class group. The courses are run only if there are enough students.
Students state their desired exit level when they register for the final exam via Punto Blu or Virtual Punto Blu regardless of the module(s) or course(s) attended.
French, Portuguese, Spanish, German (for English native speakers)
Initial evaluation test There is no compulsory initial evaluation test for French, Portuguese, Spanish, German. A self-evaluation test is available on the Internet site at http://www.unibocconi.it/languagecentre > Language Laboratories > self-evaluation tests for foreign languages.

Students are invited to take this test before enrolling for the second year of the program.
The language learning path The teaching activities designed to assist students in learning French, Portuguese, Spanish and German are organized by the Language Centre and include both levels B2 and B1 curricular courses as well as preparatory modules for students who have not yet acquired sufficient linguistic competence. The student's language level is ascertained by the self-evaluation test. Accordingly, the University will suggest an individual and personalized learning plan to the student. This may mean: attending preparatory modules either completely or partially based on linguistic competence, taking curricular courses or sitting the exam.

A second foreign language is an option for students enrolled in the CLSG and can be included in the student's study plan instead of the educational activity "project/seminars" in the third year of studies. The language learning path offered by the University is the same as the one offered for the Bachelor programs in the fields of Economics and Management. The language course is awarded 6 credit points. Students obtain the credits when they pass the exam or register one of the international certifications recognized by the University (see 3.3.4 "Method of assessing foreign language knowledge"). The exam is marked out of thirty and is included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA). Students are free to attend the class groups scheduled for Bachelor programs in the fields of Economics and Management.
In such programs the teaching is scheduled over 2 semesters (third year); the course unit covers "general" English and includes an A2 level (pre-intermediate) initial language knowledge. CLSG students enrolled for the 2007-08 academic year can only attend third-year lessons.

Please note that:
- it is possible to include a second foreign language in the study plan as an additional exam;

Method of assessing foreign language knowledge
Assessment of foreign language knowledge by Bocconi exam Language knowledge is assessed by an exam. This exam is designed to test the student's comprehension and knowledge of both written and spoken English adapted to the appropriate language level.
The summarized course programs (course profiles) of the language modules are available on the Internet site at http://www.unibocconi.it/profiles.
The detailed course programs (course syllabuses and exam requirements) are available on the Internet site at http://www.unibocconi.it/languagecentre in Language Teaching and >Undergraduate programs - III year.
The exam is marked out of thirty and is included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA). Students must state their exit level chosen between the two possible exit levels suggested by the University when they register for the exam at Punto Blu terminals or Virtual Punto Blu. The level of competence achieved is recorded on the official exam report and official academic transcript. As an alternative to the Bocconi exam, students may choose to take one of the international certification exams indicated by the University, requesting that the results achieved be converted into a mark out of thirty and recorded in their academic career by the Language Centre Office.
Students can achieve higher exit levels than the curricular exams for both first and second languages. This is only possible through the registration of international certifications in the academic career from among those recognized by the University.
Assessment of foreign language knowledge by international language certifications If students opt for a certification exam they can choose to sit the exam through either:
- the Bocconi Language Centre, if it is a recognized exam centre for the chosen certification;
- an official Examination Centre either in Italy or abroad.
The cost of sitting the certification exam is the responsibility of the individual student. The Language Centre also offers guidance and information on exam preparation and exam assessment methods and provides a range of materials which are available for use from the language laboratories. This service is offered to all students (those taking Bocconi exams or preparing international certifications). Students who already hold one of the certifications indicated by the University may ask for the result of the certification exam to be converted into a mark out of thirty and recorded instead of the Bocconi exam.
For students enrolled from the 2004-2005 a.y., for the purpose of registering international certifications in the academic career, certifications are valid for a period of three years from the date they were obtained.
It should be noted that if students hold international certifications of higher levels than the level indicated in the program requirements, these will be recognized when the graduation grade is calculated (see chapter 6 "Awarding of the graduate grade").

The program requirements of all undergraduate programs offered at Università Bocconi include a Computer skills exam (4 credit points) in the first year of studies. This course aims to develop students' IT knowledge and skills in accordance with the current regulations in force regarding undergraduate degrees in the Management, Economics and Legal Studies fields of study.

Assessment of knowledge
IT knowledge and skills are assessed by the ECDL Start (European Computer Driving Licence), an internationally recognized certificate which enables students to demonstrate their competence in Windows, Office Applications and the Internet. Università Bocconi is an official ECDL Test Centre. In order to obtain the licence it is necessary to pass the following 4 exam modules:
To pass modules students must answer at least 75% or more of exam questions correctly. When each module is passed the mark is registered on the Skills Card. The ECDL Start is awarded when all 4 modules have been passed. The overall result achieved from the 4 modules is converted into a mark out of thirty and recorded in the student's academic career. In particular, the average of the percentages achieved for each of the 4 modules is calculated. The average percentage is then converted into a mark out of thirty on the basis of the conversion table shown below. The mark out of thirty is included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average.

If students have already passed this exam at secondary school, they can complete the form online via their yoU@B student diary. If exams have not been taken through an automatic system (ALICE or ATLAS), then students must hand in a declaration indicating the score achieved (expressed as a percentage) for every exam passed. The declaration must be issued on the Test Center's official paper and submitted at the IT Education Services Center (SEDIN).

Studying abroad
Internationalization at Università Bocconi has been a strategic priority pursued since 1974, the year in which the first international agreements were put into place. Over the years these programs have developed an extensive network of relations and exchanges with prestigious academic and cultural institutions all over the world, which means there is constant collaboration with the university and international business schools on research and joint teaching projects, thus providing Bocconi students and teaching staff with invaluable international experience. Thanks to its network of international relations, Università Bocconi is able to offer its students several opportunities to acquire the kind of business training which is necessary for dealing with global economic developments.

Long programs
Exchange Program The Università Bocconi Exchange Program (including the Erasmus Program) deals with student exchanges under bilateral agreements with over 160 universities in 46 countries spreading across 5 continents, giving students the opportunity to attend courses for which they can receive credit as part of their Bocconi degrees. The international universities included in the program are some of the most renowned institutions in the world in the field of management, economics and social sciences with an emphasis on economics. In fact, Università Bocconi belongs to 2 of the most prestigious international networks: CEMS - Community of European Management Schools and PIM - Partnership in International Management.
The agreements are based on reciprocal arrangements that allow students from both institutions involved to complete a period of study abroad without paying extra university fees and tuition to the partner institution. Students are, however, responsible for travel, board and lodging expenses.
The semester program is offered to all students who are regularly enrolled at Bocconi in their third year, so students enrolled in the second year can apply.
Students who are selected and subsequently withdraw from the Exchange Program (except for reasons that are judged by the International Relations Service to be very serious), will be automatically excluded from subsequent pre-selection for all exchange programs and international internships offered by the International Relations Service (Field Projects, International Organizations and Embassies). If students withdraw during their undergraduate studies, they are not excluded from the program if they enrol in MSc programs.
Exam recognition Students can receive credit for a maximum of 4 exams recognized either fully or partially. The credit approval procedure is explained in paragraph 5.14, "Credit for exams passed at universities abroad".

Free-Mover Semester Program Students interested in attending a semester abroad outside the Exchange Program, can enrol at a number of universities abroad where they can study only during the third year of their degree as part of the Free-Mover Semester Program (fee-paying Visiting Students or Independent Students). Università Bocconi has identified a number of schools, mainly members of its international network, that are willing to accept such students. The list of universities abroad is published on the webpage at http://www.ir.unibocconi.it/eng. This is the only list considered valid for the recognition of exams taken in schools abroad as part of the Free-Mover Semester Program. Any other applications for alternatives must be examined individually beforehand, by the International Relations Service. The application must be accompanied by a motivational letter and some information about the chosen university, and is to be submitted to the International Relations Service before enrolling at the university abroad for a Free Mover Semester Program.
Application procedure Students who meet the requirements should contact their chosen institution and ask for course profiles and details about the enrolment procedures. Once students have been admitted by a school of the Free_Mover Semester network, they must contact the International Relations Service and request the green form to have courses taken abroad recognized. Students are responsible for travel, board and lodging expenses for the period abroad, as well as fees and tuition for both Bocconi and the institution abroad. Students are advised to take out health insurance for the entire period of study abroad.
Exam recognition Students can receive credit for a maximum of 3 exams recognized. The credit approval procedure is explained in paragraph 5.14, "Credit for exams passed at universities abroad".

3.5.2.
Short programs
The short programs offered by Università Bocconi give students the opportunity to spend a brief period of time abroad, generally during summer, combining educational activities with the exploration of different cultural, social and economic environments.
Campus Abroad The Campus Abroad programs are organized by Università Bocconi in collaboration with partner schools and last about 1 month. The programs aim to expose students to an international context by combining a Bocconi course with a series of "country specific" activities (seminars and visits to local companies and institutions).
Eligibility and requirements The program is designed for regularly enrolled Bocconi students, from the summer of their second year. Students are admitted to the program depending on the outcome of the selection process which is based on their GPA, number of credit points and language skills. For recent editions of this program students have been required to have a minimum GPA of 22/30, a minimum number of credit points and English language skills.
Application and deadlines The application deadline is usually in the months of November and March (the precise dates will be released in the International Relations publications and on the website). Exam recognition The exams are recognized as Bocconi exams and are not listed under "Credit for Exams Passed at Universities Abroad". Students are reminded that their participation in all activities and presence for the entire period of the program is compulsory.
Final paper Campus Abroad experiences can be regarded as part of the final paper. See paragraph 6.1, "Final paper".
Graduation grade Campus Abroad participation counts as "other relevant elements in the student's academic career" and is included in the calculation of the graduation grade only if exams are passed in the Campus Abroad regime. Free-Mover Summer Program Università Bocconi has selected a number of partner schools from its international network which offer interesting and educationally valid Summer Programs. They last between 3 to 5 weeks during the summer months and allow students to take curricular courses in various areas for which they can receive credit. The list of universities abroad will be published on the website at http://www.ir.unibocconi.it/eng. This is the only list considered valid for the recognition of courses offered in the Summer Program through institutions abroad. Students can submit applications for other alternatives that must be examined individually in advance by the International Relations Service, before applying to the program.
Eligibility and requirements The program is offered to students from all undergraduate degrees, starting from the summer of their 2nd year (N.B. participation in a summer program in the summer of their 1st year or before cannot be recognized). Università Bocconi does not carry out any type of selection process, however students must satisfy the entry requirements established by the institution chosen for the Summer Program.
Application procedure The International Relations Service provides informational guidance, making available the websites of the various programs and any brochures of partner institutions. Students are required to contact their chosen destination to obtain course programs and details of the enrolment procedures. Students are responsible for travel, board and lodging expenses as well as the fees and tuition of the partner university. Students are also encouraged to ensure that they have health insurance coverage for the period abroad. Once students have been accepted to the Free-Mover Summer Program by the institution they have chosen, they must go to the International Relations Service and collect the green credit approval form to have courses taken abroad recognized.
Exam recognition Students can receive credit for the maximum of one exam recognized either in full or after the course program has been integrated. The credit approval procedure is explained in paragraph 5.14, "Credit for exams passed at universities abroad".

Internships in Italy and abroad
Three-year Undergraduate programs allow students to include an educational internship experience in their study plans. The internship is part of the "pertinent activities in the student's curriculum" that make up the graduation grade (see paragraph 6.2.5, "Awarding of the graduation grade").
Internship characteristics Internships must satisfy the following characteristics involving duration, objectives and contents, location and positioning.
Duration An internship can last from 2 to 6 months, and is generally full-time though some flexibility is possible.
Objectives and contents The main objective of internships is to educate. They allow students to gain real work world and professional experience while developing professional skills. They help students get their bearings in these environments and facilitate their professional choices. Students gain direct knowledge of the continuously evolving world of work. The contents of the internship must be consistent with the educational objectives of the student's degree program. Throughout the internship, students are supported by a tutor in the firm/organization and a University tutor. The internship experience may also be useful for writing the final paper (see paragraph 6.1 "Final paper").
Location Internships may take place - in Italy and abroad - in firms, public and private institutions, professional studios, international organisms, diplomatic agencies, cultural institutions and other organizations.
Positioning Students may participate in internships during their third year. Students may participate in an internship only after completing second-year lessons. Internships are registered in students' academic careers as a third-year educational activity.
Organizational aspects
Finding internships Università Bocconi recognizes internships organized by any of the following parties:
- the Career Service (see following paragraphs);
- International Relations Service (SRI) - International Internship Office (see following paragraphs).
Students can also find internships via their own channels. In this case, the University will carefully monitor the internship opportunity. In addition, students must contact the Career Service - Internship Office or the SRI - International Internship Office well in advance and in any case before starting the internship.
The Career Service and International Internship Office (SRI) work together with the Directors of the Undergraduate Programs to make the internship characteristics uniform (host company experience and activities to be carried out) and to ensure that they meet the educational objectives of the Undergraduate program and educational paths. Whatever channel is used to find an internship, the host company or organization and Bocconi sign an agreement and a training project on the objectives and contents of the traineeship. As the promoter of the initiative, the University prepares all the necessary legal documentation, checks the quality of the training projects, and provide insurance coverage.
All internship experiences must be previously approved to ensure the quality and consistency of the educational path.
Registration The internship must be recorded in the student's academic career by the deadline for the graduation reservation. Generally, the internship must have been finished by that date. Any uncompleted internships which have satisfied the minimum duration of time indicated above will still be recognized and can be registered in the student's academic career. In this case, the end of internship documents must be completed within the time needed to record the internship in the student's academic career by the deadline for the graduation reservation.
Contributions for internships in Italy and abroad For students taking part in internships offered by public authorities in Italy, or through international organizations, institutions, authorities and companies abroad promoted by the Career Service and the International Internship Office (SRI) for which no compensation is provided, contributions are available from Università Bocconi: for allocation criteria and application forms see the website at http://www.unibocconi.it/financialaid in the Download Area.
Other activities recognized in lieu of internships Types of contracts, many of which were introduced with the "legge Biagi" (Biagi law) such as Servizio Civile Nazionale Volontario (Voluntary National Civil Service), and apprenticeships to obtain a diploma or for highly professional courses may be recognized as training activities "similar to internships". To have the activity recognized, apply to the Career Service.

3.6.1.
Internships in Italy and abroad organized by the Career Service
The Career Service - Internships Office is the University's point of contact for all internship activities, with the exception of programs organized by the International Relations Service - International Internship Office (see paragraph 3.6.2).
The Career Service promotes internship opportunities both in Italy and abroad with public and private organizations:
- industrial and commercial companies, service providers, banks, financial institutions;
- consulting and auditing firms, professional (e.g. accountants) and legal studios;
- government sector, public agencies and non-profit organizations;
- cultural and artistic institutions;
- authorities and companies operating in the tourism, communication and media industries.
The Service organizes all administrative procedures required by current regulations.
Furthermore, the Career Service gives useful information to assist students in identifying other opportunities based on specific needs and interests. It also helps students make their applications more effective through individual consultation and seminars.
In addition to what has already been said in terms of its characteristics, an internship - known also as traineeship - is an experience which offers in-the-field training, whose regulations are valid in Italy and are set by law (24 June 1997 no. 196 art. 18 and the decree of 25 March 1998, no. 142). An internship is not a labour contract .
By law internships are not paid. At their discretion, companies can grant a monetary contribution that would go towards a student's studies.
Participation in internships Internship opportunities in Italy and abroad are available through:
- Internship and Placement Announcements published online and reserved for Bocconi students;
- Arts and Culture International Program: program which offers internships with cultural institutions in Europe and around the world;
- Bocconi & Jobs: the semi-annual career fair allows Bocconi students to meet company representatives from all sectors;
- Company presentations in the University: companies present themselves and describe their programs for hiring potential candidates; the calendar for presentations is fixed every six months;
- Placement Library: the Career Service's library dedicated to the world of work. Students can organize the search and retrieval of information which is useful for finding internships and jobs.
These tools help to balance the supply and demand for internships. Securing an internship offer is not necessarily linked to academic qualifications. Companies decide on the desired curriculum and personal characteristics based on the contents of the educational project. During the internship, each student is supervised by both a company and University tutor.
Documents The Internships Office of the Career Service is the contact point within the University that is responsible for formalizing the training experience (unless they are arranged by the International Internship Office (SRI), see next paragraph), regulating internships (agreements, training projects, and orientation) and providing the necessary documentation to ensure the training experience is recorded in the student's academic career.
Before starting an internship, students must collect the Educational and Orientation Project form at the Career Service Internship Office and give it to the host company or organization.
When the internship has finished, the host company will issue a certification stating that he/she has completed the internship. This form must be handed in personally to the Internship Office, together with a report and a final evaluation on the training experience completed.

3.6.2.
International Internship with the International Relations Service
The International Relations Service (SRI) - International Internship Office of Università Bocconi offers 3 different international internship programs at institutions/organizations that are part of its network:
- International Organizations Program: Secretariat, agencies and field offices of the United Nations, the European Commission and other international institutions and non-government organizations throughout the world;
- Field Projects Program: Italian Chamber of Commerce abroad, companies active in international markets (excluding the European Union), and Foreign Consulates in Milan;
- Embassies Program: Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome and each Office abroad: Embassies, Consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes, Italian Permanent Representatives belonging to International institutions.

Students can also find internships using their own channels. In this case, students must contact the International Internships Office (SRI) in order to have the contents assessed and to formalize the agreement. Students are advised to do this well in advance and in any case before starting the internship.
Students eligible for International Internship programs The following may take part in international internship programs:
- students enrolled in their second year - from the end of second year lessons - for International Organizations (some institutions) and Field Projects Programs. Students must have obtained 60% of their first-year credit points;
- students enrolled in their third year (up to second-year repeating students ("fuori corso"), for the International Organizations (some institutions) and Field Projects Programs. Students must have completed their first-year exams and have earned 60% of their second-year credit points;
- Bocconi graduates up to 18 months after graduation, for International Organizations (some institutions), Embassies, and Field Projects.
Requirements The requirements for taking part in the International Internship programs are:
- for all programs: knowledge of the foreign language required by the host institution;
- only for the Embassies Program: minimum graduation grade 105/110.

Documents Students who would like to take part in the above programs must send the following documents in Word format (in one file) via email (international.internship@unibocconi.it) by the set deadlines:
- curriculum vitae and motivation letter in Italian (one for each institution you are applying for);
- curriculum vitae and motivation letter written in the language required by the institution (one for each institution you are applying for), except for the Embassies Program;
In order to complete the application, students must hand in the following items by the set deadlines:
- application form (to be collected from the International Internship Office or downloaded from http://www.ir.unibocconi.it/internship);
- copy of any language certifications;
- 1 passport photo, signed on the back;
- enrolment certification or unofficial academic transcript (printed at Punto Blu termials).
Only for the International Organizations Program students need:
- special forms from the individual institutions; ask at the International Internship Office (if required).
Only for the Embassies Program:
After the International Internship Office has carried out the pre-selection based on language skills and also academic merit, student profiles are sent to the institutions which make the final decision. Students who withdraw from the internship or Exchange Program without good reason, according to an evaluation of the International Relations Service, are excluded from future pre-selections of all international internship programs (Field Projects, International Organizations and Embassies). If a student is excluded during undergraduate studies, this does not affect the student's eligibility to participate in these programs during graduate studies. Furthermore, for one month no other internship is allowed, even if the student organizes his/her own.
Periods and deadlines Internship opportunities organized by the International Internships Office of the International Relations Service are promoted in the International Internships bulletin published on the website at http://www.ir.unibocconi.it/internship.

3.7.
In-Company Training
In-Company Training projects are designed to provide students with professional guidance.
The project offers small groups of students (between 15 to 30 participants) the chance to spend a training period lasting between 2 to 5 days with a company.
Participants take part in diversified activities and initiatives. The main objectives are to increase understanding of business and process dynamics, deepen knowledge of functional areas and improve transversal skills. Generally, projects are structured in two parts: a theoretical part (company presentations, company functions, seminars, testimonies) and a practical part (business games, company visits, group assignments); contents are agreed upon with the company.
The Career Service promotes the realization of In-Company Training projects both in Italy and abroad in collaboration with different types of public and private companies: industrialists, commercialists, service providers, credit, finance and insurance institutions, consulting and auditing firms, professional studios as well as public authorities, institutions and associations.
If the organisation is located outside of the local area then Università Bocconi provides participants with a contribution to cover part of board, lodging and travel expenses.

On completion of the project, students are requested to write and submit a report prior to receiving the certificate of participation.
In-Company Training projects are included in the "other relevant elements in the student's academic career" for the purpose of calculating graduation grades (see paragraph 6.2.5 "Awarding of the graduation grade").

3.8.
Supplementary activities: courses and seminars
Università Bocconi offers its students supplementary activities designed to enhance their cultural backround and complement the degree program requirements.
Supplementary activities count as part of "other academic achievements in the student's academic career", for the purpose of calculating graduation grades (see chapter 6.2.5, paragraph "Awarding of the graduation grade").
The supplementary activities are divided in two large groups. For the first group of activities students must sign up using the yoU@B student diary (see 3.8.1). The second group must sign up to the service offering the activity, without use of the student diary (see 3.8.2).

3.8.1.
Supplementary activities registration via yoU@B student diary
Supplementary activities include:
The offer for 2007-2008 a.y. is published in September (before the start dates of any activity initiatives); more detailed information including programs and calendars will be released on the websites of the services sector which offer these activities.
The general rules for supplementary activities are set out below:
- sign-up application procedure: through the yoU@B student diary during 2 periods:
- from 19 to 30 September 2007 for I semester activities; - from 10 to 25 January 2008 for II semester activities.
When signing up students can choose up to 3 choices (max) in decreasing order of preference. Students can also indicate if they intend taking just 1 of the 3 indicated or if they intend to take 2 (if it is possible to assign everyone a course and there are still places available);
- assigning courses: sign-up applications are accepted on the basis of academic merit, GPA and credits recorded in the academic career. In the II semester priority is given to students who missed out on their preferences or who did not apply in I semester. Once the ranking has been drawn up, students are assigned their first, second or third choices, in that order, depending on whether there are places available. After all students in the ranking have been assigned an activity, where possible, the same criteria are applied to assigning a second to those who have requested one, and if there are any places left. Students who are admitted/not admitted to attend these activities will receive a personal online message sent to their yoU@B student diary;
- attendance: obligatory for at least 75% of the teaching sessions, as established by the instructors. Students who attend less than 50% without good reason (e.g. medical certificate), will be excluded from future editions of these activities for the whole academic year as well as the following academic year; this exclusion also applies to online courses which have mechanisms for registering attendance, if offered;
- evaluation: is carried out by instructors according to the assessment methods discussed in class (e.g. written report) but is subordinate to the compulsory 75% attendance;
- period of study: courses are held during teaching periods and on specific dates which are finalized before the sign-up period begins;
- duration: a minimum of 5 teaching sessions of 2 hours each.
