Course Objectives
The performing arts workshop is aimed at introducing students to the performing arts sector, with insights into different areas of the field. In particular, genres as theatre, festivals, dance, classical music, ballet and opera will be taken into account, with an interdisciplinary and international scope. Both the nonprofit area of the performing arts and the commercial side of live entertainment will be considered. Students are given the opportunity to visit some of the most important Italian arts organizations and to meet practitioners and experts in the field.
Course Content Summary
In particular, the workshop has been outlined as a triple path through the field, structured as follows:
Curating the Performing Arts (Prof. Silvia Bottiroli)
Overview of the aesthetics and forms of the contemporary performing arts in an interdisciplinary perspective, and in depths analysis of the modalities in which artistic contents are made and displayed, throughthe curatorial: a complex series of skills and tasks that refer to the curators and their work in relation to different contexts, audiences, venues.
Managing the Performing Arts: An Italian Field Trip (Prof. Claudia Tacchino, Prof. Ilaria Morganti)
- Insights into the field: In depths analysis of the production and distribution process of the performing arts, with a special focus on opera, which on the one hand is highly representative of Italian culture and, on the other hand, presents the highest level of complexity within the field.
- Field Experience: Backstage tours to Piccolo Teatro and La Scala Theatre, field trip to Venice;

Prerequisites
This workshop is primarily addressed to ACME students who wants to make their career in the performing arts and entertainment fields. International students willing to attend the course are welcomed but they should evidence strong interest and commitment (as professional or non professional artists or as spectators) in the performing art field.
