CONTENT SUMMARY
The course will examine:
- Legal sources from Late Antiquity to Early Middle Ages
- The Age of the Classical Ius Commune
- The Early Modern Period: legal doctrine, courts, and the sources of the law
- The Age of Reforms: the Enlightenment and the Law
- Legal Issues of the Contemporary Age

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Describe the framework of the historical evolution of the law in Europe
- Recognize the different sources of the law from the middle ages to present time
- Illustrate the historical evolution of the fundamental legal principles of private and public law
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Assess the historical evolution of the European legal systems
- Evaluate the sources of the law in time and space
- Develop a general understanding of the complexities of European legal history
