GUIDES TO THE UNIVERSITY

Università Bocconi's School of Law offers, a five-year Integrated Master of Arts in Giurisprudenza [Law] (CLMG) program.
The CLMG program is taught in two class groups made up of an average of 150 students each.

The study plan is expressed with credit points.
A credit point is the unit of measurement which determines the workload students are required to fulfil. It is assumed that students are adequately prepared from the start to carry out the educational activities required by the degree program. The workload includes both classroom activities (lessons, exercises, seminars) as well as group work and individual study.

Credit points are given for all educational activities which are part of the program requirements.

In accordance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), on average one credit point is equivalent to 25 hours of work, about 8 of which are spent in the classroom.

The average workload for a full-time student is set at 60 credit points per year, as per agreement.

In order to receive the Combined Bachelor and Master of Science degree, students must gain at least 300 credit points.

The credit points assigned to each educational activity are earned when students pass an exam or its equivalent.

• the first part of the educational path provides the juridical 'method' and the cultural and technical basis to train the jurist working primarily in a company;
• the second part of the educational path provides advanced studies to complete jurist's cultural training, via monograph studies of specific institutions or subject areas which have been studied in the 'basic courses';
• promote the development of juridical competences in a European and international perspective not only via mandatory basic courses of comparative and international law, but also via optional courses, some of which taught in English and via student international mobility with study periods in partner universities;
• complete the juridical education with basic economics, business and quantitative studies for easy access in the economic cultural context in which the modern jurist will work;
• assure the cognitive instruments necessary to make and draft complex juridical thoughts leading to correct solutions to problems requiring a specialized knowledge with particular reference to topics of the jurist in companies or public and international institutions;
• develop competence and knowledge through educational activities involving the active student participation in class and interaction with the professor through earning on-the field skills through internship and case studies;
• develop skills to use the IT skills, English language and a second EU language in juridical context.

• have access to such legal professions as: the magistracy, notary public, legal profession, subject to a state competitive examination (magistracy or notary) or specific examination (legal profession) as well as (in the case of the legal profession and notary) a period of apprenticeship in a professional studio according to regulations;
• have access to the regulated professions. In such cases, the graduate can enroll in the postgraduate school for the legal professions, whose aim is to prepare students for the law examination and the state competitive examination for notary or magistrate ; enrolling in the School exempts from the national pre-selection for the magistracy competitive examination;
• have access to the labor market in companies, public bodies, non-profit institutions, in international and supranational organizations in positions where specific juridical preparation is required;
• continue one's studies by enrolling in a Ph.D. program in legal subjects.

With reference to the exam of Diritto comparato  pubblico, the codes of reference are 50107 or 50096 depending on the year of initial enrollment.

The program structure is made up of compulsory courses which correspond to exams which all students must pass. In order to reach the degree program's educational goals and receive the combined Bachelor and Master of Science degree, students must pass the exams related to these courses.

According to current regulations, such educational activities are classified as: "basic", "characteristic" of the degree's field of study and "independently decided upon by the University" (D.M. 25 November 2005).

The compulsory courses, whose credit points and subject areas satisfy ministerial requirements, are divided into two categories:

• basic compulsory courses, which are the same for all Combined Bachelor and Master of Science students;
• compulsory courses included in the second/third year, that can be chosen alternatively by the student;
• advanced compulsory courses (a.c. - advanced courses), positioned in the fourth and fifth years of studies, which expand on topics dealt with in the basic courses taken in the first years of the program. Each advanced course has a specialized profile related to each major.

Detailed programs (course syllabuses) are available online and they are usually distributed by professors on the first days of lessons.

Students must select elective courses in order to complete the program requirements regarding activities chosen by the student. An elective course is worth 6 credit points.

The detailed profiles of the courses (course syllabuses) are available online and in any case are usually distributed in class by the professors when the course starts.
 

Before choosing their electives students should consult the table of "Incompatible courses". The "Incompatible courses table" indicates the courses that cannot be chosen together in the same study plan because their course programs are either exactly or partly similar.

The exams related to electives can be taken at universities abroad as part of the programs offered by the International Relations Service. The criteria and credit approval procedure is indicated in "Recognition of exams passed in foreign universities".

The program structure includes the choice, at the beginning of the fourth year, of one of the following majors:

• Impresa [Business law track]: addressed to an in-depth study of the issues inherent in private enterprise law, with a focus on the rules governing companies, extraordinary financial operations, operations of financial markets, financial intermediation, as well as regulation of competition and industrial law;
• Forense [Litigation law track]: addressed to an in-depth study of topics specifically linked to court/out of court phases;
• International track: addressed to an in-depth study of topics specifically linked to international public law on the basic of graduates’ academic path prepared to access to national Public Institutions and International and supranational Institutions.

For each of the guided majors, students may choose their elective courses in a selection of courses.

Ermeneutica giuridica, Civil liberties and human rights and Private international law are strongly recommended for students of the major Litigation law track.

If students participate in Exchange, Themis, Free Mover Semester programs, the requirement can be fulfilled through the recognition of compulsory, compulsory courses chosen by the student or electives taken in English. This is not applied to those students participating in Exchange or Free Mover Semester Program at universities not offering courses taught in English, but they must have recognized at least 1  course. For the Themis, they must satisfy all program requirements.

At least one elective course must be chosen from among those taught in English. This is not applied to those students participating in Exchange or Free Mover Semester Program at universities not offering courses taught in English, but they must have recognized at least 1 elective course. For the Themis, they must satisfy all program requirements

The free track is subject to the Program Director Approval.

To classify language competence levels, Università Bocconi conforms to the Common European Framework established by the Council of Europe.

The Integrated Master of Arts in Giurisprudenza [Law] includes in its program structure two compulsory European Union foreign languages: a first foreign language and a second one.

The objective of first foreign language courses is to provide students with the language skills for the general use of the first language for the specific area of law and for the second foreign language, the language skills needed for an appropriate general language use.

The foreign language are as follows:  

The first language exam of the first year is a prerequisite to the second-year exam.

Credit points are awarded once students pass the exam.

The credit points given for passing the first-year exam form part of the first-year credit points needed to access second year (see "Administrative Procedures Regulations and Deadlines").

The language learning path for the first foreign language begins in the I semester of the first year of studies.

The language learning path for the second foreign language begins in the I semester of the third year of studies.

For both the first and second foreign language courses, the grade out of thirty which assesses foreign language skills is included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA).

As an alternative to sitting the Bocconi exam, students may register the results of any foreign language international certifications, among those recognized by Bocconi, in their academic career (see "Method of Assessing Foreign Language Knowledge").

For the first and second language there is a partial exam (elective and on one date) positioned in the first semester of teaching activities.
When passing the partial exam, credit points are not awarded but 1 extra point expressed in marks out of thirty which can be calculated in the Bocconi exam final grade may be awarded (see the language syllabuses and exam programs published on the website respectively at www.unibocconi.eu/languagecentre in Exams Certificates>Bocconi exams).

Positioning of the languages for the students initially enrolled within the 2012/2013 academic year

The Integrated Master of Arts in Giurisprudenza [Law] includes 2 languages of the European Union to be included in the study plan: a compulsory first language and an elective second language (included in the elective courses to be chosen by the student). Objective of the first language courses is to provide the students with adequate skills for an appropriate use of the specialized language in the legal area and, for the second language, adequate skills for an appropriate use of the general language.
 

First language (compulsory)
The first language includes:  

To sit for the fourth year exam, students need to have the first year language exam and the second year language exam (the exam of the first year is a prerequisite of the second year exam).
The credit points are earned when passing the relating exam.

Second language (elective) 

The second language includes:

The choice of foreign languages follows the same criteria for both first and second languages. In particular:

• the first language (of “general” contents) is compulsorily English for all non native speakers of English students;
• the first language (of specialized contents “legal) is compulsorily English for all students (including the English native speakers).

The method of choosing languages is as follows:

All first year students are automatically allocated English as first language in their study plan.

Students who are native English speakers must choose the first language from the other curricular languages.
Students who aren't native Italian speakers can choose Italian as their second language.

If a student has more than one mother tongue (e.g. coming from or residing in a multilingual country or living with parents from 2 different nationalities) the student must choose one language as his/her mother tongue for the whole duration of his studies.

The choice of the second language is carried out upon enrollment in the third or in the fifth year of studies depending on the positioning of the second language in the program structure.

Notice that in the 2015-16 academic year the Portuguese language (teaching and Bocconi exam) is only offered as second language to students enrolled in the third year of studies. In the other cases, it is only possible to register in the study plan one of the international certifications recognised by the University. • international language certifications recognized as an alternative of the Bocconi exam (only for English first language);
• Bocconi exams (for curricular first and second languages).

B. Guided individual study

A. Teaching
The Language Center organizes lessons and provides curricular courses which generally run only if enough students are enrolled in.

Lessons to prepare the students to certifications for English

The courses of preparation for the certifications are offered in the second semester for students of the first year, in the first and second semester for second year students, for fourth year students in the first semester. The courses prepare the students to the following certifications:

• ILEC, International Legal English Certificate, specialized/legal language Cambridge English Language Assessment, levels B2 and C1;
• IELTS , International English Language Testing System, general language, Examination Center British Council, IDP - IELTS Australia, Cambridge English Language Assessment, level C1 and B2 (only as an alternative of the first year exam).

The offer of the certifications is limited to few cases in which the students can record a certification as an alternative to the Bocconi exam provided for in the program structure.

In addition:

• places available are limited: to be admitted students must sit for a test;
• once the test is carried out, the ranking for the students admitted is set: test results are IT processed and are in line with European parameters;
• the courses have a semester structure (October-December; February-May), each one includes 48 teaching academic hours (except for IELTS C1: 24 hours).

Periods and methods to sit for the test and to enrol in such courses are communicated through the yoU@B student Diary before the start of each semester (further information at www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter in Language Teaching).

Each course is started only if an adequate number of enrolled students is reached.

A1 Lessons to prepare the students to Bocconi exams for curricular language courses for students initially enrolled starting from the the 2013-2014 academic year

First academic language (first year of studies) and first legal language (second year of studies)

Lessons for the first foreign language include for both cases a single path lasting two semesters for a total of 96 hours of lessons, automatically assigned to each student when initially enrolling and enrolling in the second year.

Second foreign language
Lessons for the second foreign language include a single path lasting one year in the third year automatically assigned to each student when making the choice of the language, for a total of 128 hours of lessons.

Attendance to first and second language courses is strongly recommended; attending courses is the most effective way of learning the language and preparing for the final exam. Active participation in a course and self-study activities can be are counted for the Bocconi exam final grade (more detailed information is available athttp://www.unibocconi.eu/languagecentre in Exams - Certificates > Exam requirements).

First year students who have finalized their enrolment can check their language class timetable at yoU@B. Students enrolled in subsequent year can check the timetable when the teaching starts.

Teaching for the Bocconi exams for the curricular languages for students initially enrolled within the 2012-2013 academic year

For the first legal language, teaching in the fourth year includes the second part of the course in the first semester for a total number of hours equal to 36 hours of lessons. For the second foreign language teaching in class lasts one year (in the fifth year) for a total of 128 hours of lessons.

Attendance to the courses of the first and second foreign language is strongly recommended: attending corses is the most effective way of learning the language and preparing for the final exam. Active participation in a course and self-study activities can be counted for the Bocconi exam final grade (detailed information is available at hrttp://www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter in Exams-Certificates>Exam requirements).

Guided independent study

Learning a foreign language requires not only attending lessons regularly but also consistent efforts in independent study. The Language Center offers students information and consulting services for language study. Its language laboratory provides a variety of preparatory materials (multi-media library) and other material is available online for different languages (see www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter in Self Study>e-learning online materials).

Guided independent study consists of a variety of activities which the student carries out, based on specific indications given by the teacher. Activities may involve teaching materials (e.g. exercises in books), support from the language laboratory (e.g. multimedia courses) and other material available online. 

The course syllabuses available at www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter in Language Teaching provide information concerning lessons as well as guided independent study.
As a general guide, the total amount of hours which should be dedicated to independent study is 3-4 hours per week.

For English, Università Bocconi strongly recommends an initial language preparation of at lest B1 level (intermediate) of the European Language Framework (see European Language Framework) in order to attend the language courses with needed knowledge.
On the Bocconi website at www.unibocconi.it/centrolinguistico in Requisiti minimi in ingresso (only Italian version) detailed information on the language skills needed and on self-learning paths to follow to rech the specified level is available.

In order to seek for the correct learning path assigned, all non English native speakers enrolled in class groups taught in Italian, must assess their initial knowledge of English as follows:

• when finalizing enrolment students must show that they have at least one of the language requirements stated when they applied for admission online and indicated by the University (see the website www.unibocconi.eu/admission or
• when making the selection "Italian candidates", students take the aptitude test entirely in English, or
• when making the selection "Italian candidates", together with the aptitude test (in Italian) students take a test for the language positioning.

Students who are not native Italian speakers or non-EU citizens with no Italian residency and enrolled in an Italian class group must take the online Italian language test (in accordance with Ministerial regulations).

  Assessment is carried out by:

• international certification from among those recognized by the University, or
• taking an exam in Bocconi.

International certifications

As an alternative to the Bocconi exam students may only choose to take one of the international certifications exams indicated by the University. The registration of the achieved result in the academic career, after being converted into a number grade out of a possible thirty is made by the Secretary’s Office of the Language Centre under presentation of the original certification.

The level of the certifications presented must be for each language equal to or higher than the exit levels (in accordance with the criteria indicated in "Exit levels").

International certification is registered in the student's academic career and it is valid for 3 years (except for some international tests which are valid for less time, see www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter in Exams-Certificates).

The list of international certifications recognized is published at www.unibocconi.eu/languagecenter, in Exams-Certificates.

For both the first and second foreign languages, international certifications may be presented starting with the first year of studies. In any case, the related credit points and marks are attributed to the year of studies of the course

With respect to the first foreign language it should be noted that in order to be registered in the student's academic career, an international foreign language certification the following cases are possible.
 

For students initially enrolled starting from the 2013-2014 academic year:

• if the certification presented is of level B2 general it can replace only the exam of the 1^st year;
• if the certification presented is of level general C1 or C2 or legal language B2, C1 or C2, it can replace only the exams of the first and second year. Specifically:
• if the certification is presented during the first year: 4 credit points will be registered in the student's academic career for the first year and 3 credit points will be registered for the second year; in this case only the first year credit points are calculated to pass from the first to the second year of studies and only if the certification is  presented by 15 July 2016;
• if the certification is presented during the second years of studies or later, the student will be lacking the credit points necessary for the exams of each year until these are registered. 

With respect to the first foreign language exam is is also specified that, in all cases, when registering the certification in his career:

• student has not taken the Bocconi exam: the grade of the certification, converted into a grade expressed out of thirty, will be given:
• as the result of only the first year exam if the certification is of level B2 general language;
• as the result of the first exam and, if chosen by the student, the second exam if the certification is of level C1 or C2 general language or legal B2, C1 or C2;
• student has already taken the first Bocconi exam and has it registered in his/her academic career: the grade expressed out of thirty will be given as the result of the second exam only, only if the level and linguistic area are appropriate.
   

For students initially enrolled within the 2014-2015 academic year:

• If the certification presented is of general level B2 it can replace only the exams of the first and second year, in particular when the certification is presented in the third year of studies or subsequent years: students will turn out ‘in debito d’esame’ (student who has not yet passed the exam for previous year/s) for the credit points relating to each year until they are recorded.
• If the certification presented is of general level C1 or C2 or legal language B2, C1 or C2 it can replace the exams of 1st year, second year and fourth year. In particular when the certification is presented in the third year of studies or subsequent years: students will turn out ‘in debito d’esame’ (student who has not yet passed the exam for previous year/s) for the credit points relating to each year until they are recorded.
   

With reference to the first language it is also specified that in all cases, if when recording a certification in the student’s academic career the student:

• has not taken any Bocconi exam: the grade of the certification, transformed into a grade out of thirty is:
• result of the first exam and the second exam if it is of general language level B2;
• result of both the first, second and, if chosen by the student, also third exam if it is of legal language level B2, C1 or C2;
• has already and recorded the first Bocconi exam in his/her academic career: the grade of the certification, converted in a grade out of thirty is result of the second exam only and of any third exam on the basis of the level and language area of the certification (as specified above)
• has already taken and recorded in the student’s academic career the first and second Bocconi exam: the grade of the certification, converted into a grade out of thirty, is specified as grade relating to the third exam only, if the level and the language area are appropriate (as specified above).

International foreign language certifications can be received by sitting an exam with an official examination centre, both in Italy and abroad.

Students are responsible for any costs related to exams certification.

For students who are interested in certifications or in the Bocconi exam or, the Language Centre provides information and guidance on exam assessment methods. Specific materials for exam preparation and past exam papers are also available at the language laboratory.

The Università Bocconi is test center for some English certificates of British Council / Cambridge English Language Assessment, recognized as an alternative to the Bocconi exam. Registrations for exam sessions is made via the yoU@B Diary, upon paying the relating cost. The whole procedure follows the relating rules set by the appropriate Institute.

Bocconi exam

The assessment is carried out by taking an exam which tests comprehension skills and knowledge of written and spoken language depending on the level of competence to be achieved.

The exam is structured in a written exam and an oral - both compulsory - exam. Admittance in the oral exam depends on passing the written exam with a minimum grade of 18 out of 30. The first-year exam is a prerequisite of the following exams.

Students can apply for having the Legal English (first language) curricular exam exempted i.e. having the grade achieved in the Genral English (codes 50127 or 30129) on the basis of the year of initial enrolment of the CLMG or former Bocconi undergraduate degree in Giurisprudenza [Law] exam recorded in the student academic career (exam grade or grade of the recognised international certification expressed out of thirties according to the appropriate tables defined by the Language Centre) only for the following exam (English first language first year of studies) exit levels: B2 legal, C1 general, C1 legal, C2 general, C2 legal.

If students who meet the above necessary requirements apply for the exemption must hand in the request form to the Academic Affairs Division Desk from 29 July 2015 to 30 September 2015 and from 08 to 19 January 2016. 

For the second language there is one single exam in the second semester of teaching. 

For the first language (academic and legal) and for the second language there is
a partial exam (optional and on a single date) to be taken in the I semester of the relating course and a final exam to be taken in the II semester (for information on partial exam check the website at www.unibocconi.eu/languagecentre in Exam Certificates>Course contents and Exam requirements).

Exams follow the same language standards as those set for international certifications.

For the first language and for the second one the final grade is given on the basis of the exam final result as well as other means of evaluation to check progress made during the course of studies. Specifically:

• positive results each year for active classroom participation and guided independent study;
• passing partial exam (only when scheduled, see 2.5) and passing the final exam written and oral part in the first sessions available;
• sitting the written and oral exams and passing them in the same session.

The final grade achieved is out of 30 and it is included in the calculation of the Grade Point Average (GPA).

The level of competence achieved is recorded on the official exam report and on the official academic transcript.

Exit levels which are higher than those foreseen for curricular exams of first and second languages are only possible through the registration in the student's academic career of any international certifications recognized by the University, and it is not considered in the graduation grade.

Also foreign languages can be recorded as additional exams. With reference to the curricular languages it is specified that:

• the same rules which are valid for additional exams are applied (see "Additional courses");
• the recording of the grade earned through the Bocconi exam or the conversion in a grade out of thirty of the score achieved upon international certification from among the ones recognized by the Univerisity in accordance with the same methods for the recognition and recording valid for the first and second foreign language (see "Method of assessing foreign language knowledge, International certifications");
• the minimum exit level and linguistic field specified for second language (see "Exit levels").
   

In addition, students can record in their study plan also Russian and Chinese, which are a non curricular language courses. For the recording of them:

• the same rules valid for all additional exams (see "Additional courses") are applied;
• there are no Bocconi exams therefore it is only possible to record an international certification from among the ones recognized by the university in accordance with the same methods for recognition and recording valid for curricular languages (see "Method of assessing foreign language knowledge, International certifications");
• a minimum exit level equal to B1 for linguistic general area.
  

(*) Please notice that the Chinese and the Russian are not included in the educational offer and therefore there are no Bocconi exams nor curricular lessons.

The program requirements of all Bachelor programs offered at Università Bocconi include a computer skills course, aiming to provide students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in IT.

The computer skills course, Informatica per Giurisprudenza [Computer skills for Law] (course code 50019), is positioned in the first semester of the second year; the course is worth 3 credit points.  

There are 2 types of assessment methods:

• Partial exams:
  They have been planned for those who regularly attend the lessons and the exam topics refer to the bibliography for partial exams. Only second year students can sit for partial exams. Partial exams cannot be sat nor repeated in the following years.
• General exams:
  They are addressed to those who have not sat partial exams or who have not passed them. The preparation of the whole bibliography is required.
  

For both cases, the exam includes questions (multiple questions and open ones) and computer exercises.
Please note that in order to be able to register for the exam of Informatica per Giurisprudenza [Computer Skills for Law] students must have one of the following certifications: a complete ECDL certification (Core or Standard Full), or one of the other equivalent certifications recognized by University. The certification must be completed and submitted to SEDIN according to the deadlines and procedures published on the website http://www.unibocconi.eu/sedin.

It is strongly recommended that students gain the ECDL license before attending the lessons, in order to attend computer skills course with necessary basic knowledge.

Students who do not yet possess the complete ECDL certification may take it at Università Bocconi. Exams are heald each week according to a calendar which is regularly updated. Students can purchase the ECDL products (at a providing cost) online, to view the calendar and sign up for the modules via the yoU@B student Diary, through the ECDL box.

The Integrated Master of Arts in Giurisprudenza [Law] (CLMG) allows students to include an educational internship experience apprenticeship/training (from now internship) or similar activity in their study plans. An internship is worth 6 credit points, and as an alternative students initially enrolled up to the 2012/13 a.y. can include an elective course or a second foreign language course. Students initially enrolled starting from the 2013/14 a.y. can include as an alternative to the internship, an elective course only. It is possible to participate in other internship (not worth credit points) experiences during your studies or after graduation, which do not have curricular value and for which the information in the following paragraphs and sections does not apply: Duration, Positioning, Internship Recognition, Other activities recognized in lieu of internships.
In this chapter, "curricular intership" exclusively stands for curricular internship with credit points.

Curricular internships must satisfy the following characteristics involving duration, objectives and contents, location and positioning.
Duration
• Minimum 12 weeks, full-time if in Italy;
• Minimum 10 weeks, full-time if abroad.
As for an exception, and always upon authorization of the Program Director Dean of the School of Law, a part-time internship can be approved only if it has a minimum duration of 16 weeks in Italy or abroad.
The number of weeks must be understood as continuous and non-cumulative.
For variations on duration see paragraph 2.4.5. Postponement, suspension, withdrawal/interruption.

Objectives and contents
The internship is an in-the-field training experience and not a labour contract whose regulations are valid in Italy and are set by the law (national and regional law) and by the University. The main objective of internships is to educate. They allow students to gain real professional experience while developing professional skills. They help students get their bearings in these areas and facilitate their professional choices. Students acquire direct knowledge of the continuously evolving world of work.

The contents of internships must be aligned with the educational objectives of the Program.
The in the field experience include a company tutor (professional expert) supporting the students.
 
Location
Internships may be taken - In Italy and abroad - in professional studies, firms, public and private institutions, professional studios, international organisms, diplomatic agencies, cultural institutions and other organizations.
Internships held on the premises of the participant's family property are not accepted.

Positioning
Students may participate in internships during their fifth year of studies.
Students may participate in an internship only after completing fourth-year lessons.

 Internships can be found through one of the following channels:

• Markets and External Affair Division (see below);
• School of Law Direction;
• Students can have internships found via their one’s own channels recognized, at highly qualified companies only. In this case, the Program Director and the Internship Office will carefully monitor the internship request Students invite the company to put in contact through the University well in advance than the internship, by accessing the Jobgate Portal.
  

Markets and External Affairs Division promotes the internship opportunities in Italy and abroad through:

• JobGate: an online platform matching supply and demand, updated on a daily basis;
• Speciale Stage Curriculari Legal: program of curricular internships at legal studios;
• Bocconi & Jobs Italy and abroad: career fair which allows Bocconi students to meet with numerous professional offices, companies and institutions from all sectors; every year a section of the event on-campus is addressed to legal studios;
•  Company meetings with employers on and off campus: presentations on programs for hiring potential candidates at companies; networking activities, individual recruiting meetings with company representatives (Drop-In).

Whatever channel is used to find an internship, the host company or organization in Italy and Bocconi sign an internship document entitled single internship agreement via the JobGate on the objectives and contents of the internship.
As the promoter of the initiative the University will prepare all the necessary legal documentation, check the quality of the training projects, and provide insurance coverage.

Once the trainee has been selected and the internship details have been agreed, the company fills out the internship document (entering data and contents) on the JobGate, by the Monday preceding the start of the internship. Internships always start on Monday.
If the candidate chosen for the internship wants to recognize the experience as the curricular internship for credit, he/she will have to ask the preliminary authorization and wait for the answer from the University before starting the internship. The information relating to the internship are made viewable by the trainee on the JobGate so that he/she can check that the contents agreed upon by with the company during the interviews are coherent with the ones specified. The confirmation is valid as internship acceptance.

The Internship Office checks the training project and, after checking the coherence and the quality of its quality in accordance with the current laws, confirms the internship. The University can negotiate the contents and the conditions of the internship with the company and, in case of no agreement, can refuse to promote the internship.
If not, he/she can refuse to promote the internship.

Before starting the internship and before collecting the internship documents at the Welcome Desk of the One-stop Service Center, the student must access the course Internship let’s go! available under Extracurricular Courses on the Bocconi e-learning website.

On the first day of the internship, the company downloads the internship document from the JobGate and it is signed by the trainee together with a company legal representative or delegated party. The original document is promptly sent by the company to the Internship Office for having it signed by the University.

The trainee must ensure that the company sends original copy of the document to the University. When it is not returned, the internship cannot be considered as valid. The internship document, completed with all signatures, is uploaded on the JobGate portal of the University for being used by the company and by the trainee.

Also internships abroad are run by Internship Agreement, in compliance with the procedure described above.

However, internships can be run with an internship contract or other document demonstrating practice educational experience according with the local laws where the internship experience is held. Such documentation must be sent by the trainee to the Internship Office through the Help@Contact procedure on the yoU@B Diary before the start of the internship. Internships which are not provided with such documentation cannot be recognised as internship.

For all internships carried out of Italy the students trainees must verify the methods for obtaining, if requested, the appropriate visa and ony other needed document so that the internship can be carried out in compliance with the law of the hosting Country. If documentation of the University is also needed to support the visa request, the trainee can make reference to the cert@B procedure for the official certifications and to the Internship Office (through the Help&Contact procedure) for any ad hoc documents.

For all internships carried out out of Italy, the trainee sign before departure, a document of Indemnity.
In such document the student declares to be aware that the University cannot ensure security and solvency of the institution and the country in which he freely decided to carry out the internship.

The trainee finds the document of Indemnity in the JobGate, in the ‘My internships’ area in the section ‘Attachments area’. Once the document has been filled out and signed, the document must be uploaded in the same section.

At the middle of the internship, the trainee and the company tutor are invited to fill out the mid-term evaluation form. The trainee can view form filled out by the company tutor and can decide if authorize the tutor to view the form filled out. 

Few time before the end of the internship the following end-of-internship documentation documents is are required:

• Evaluation form filled out by the student via the yoU@B student Diary;
• End-of-internship report by the students via the yoU@B student Diary (only for internships carried out abroad);
• Evaluation form of the company tutor filled out on the JobGate. The evaluation by the company tutor includes the skills acquired.
  The company, at the end of the internship and upon request of the trainee, must issue an internship certification.

The student has the responsibility to make sure that the tutor has filled out his/her form. All documents of end-of internship are available starting two weeks before the end of the internship.

All internship experiences must be previously approved so as to guarantee the quality and consistency with educational objectives of the Program. Internships are validated when completed, so that students may receive academic recognition for the experience.
In order to obtain the recognition of the internship and the recognition of the credit points please follow the instructions below described in the following paragraph.

Authorization in advance
After having viewed the internship on the JobGate and having confirmed it formally, the student must request the in-advance authorization, by accessing the area ‘My internships’ and clicking on ‘Request advance authorization’. The request is automatically made viewable to the Program Director who can give his/her approval, reject it or, for more information, ask the student, through a messaging procedure available on the yoU@B Diary, to schedule a meeting or through chat. The student views the request outcome in the yoU@B in the ‘My internships’ area.
Notice: without advance authorization is not started as curricular internship.



Final validation
Once the internship is ended, the Program Director views the evaluation sheets filled out by the trainee and company tutor respectively. The evaluation sheets will be analyzed carefully; for more information, the Program Director can ask the student, through a messaging procedure available on the yoU@B Diary, to schedule a meeting or through chat. Once the final recognition has been obtained, the student can check the credit points recording in his/her academic career via the Punto Blu.

The University carries out checks during the internship of the student in order to verify the real running of the internship. In case the student is repeatedly not found the internship is annulled. The internship annulment communication will be immeditely forwarded to the student and to the host company/professional office.

In case of behavior contrary to the Honor Code or University regulations during the internship, students can be reported to the Disciplinary Board by the Internship Office.

Internship recording

The internship is recorded by the deadline for the study plan completion set for the graduation. Generally, the internship must have been finished by that date.
Any uncompleted internships which have satisfied the minimum duration of time indicated above will still be recognized in the student's academic career. The recognition can be possible only if:

• the student has to graduate before the end of the internship.
• the student applies for a scholarship.

In this case, the end-of-internship documents must be completed and submitted within the time needed to record the internship in the student's academic career, as the set deadline for the completion of the study plan approaches (at least one week before).

As the internship is not a labour by Law, it is not paid. At their discretion companies can grant a monetary contribution that would go towards a student’s studies.

a) ISU/Università Bocconi
For students taking part in internships offered by public authorities in Italy, or through international organizations, institutions, authorities and companies abroad for which no compensation is provided, contributions are available from Università Bocconi: for allocation criteria and application forms see the ISU download Area.
b) Erasmus+
Erasmus program scholarships + 2014-2020Schorships of the Erasmus LLP/Erasmus
Student placement program are available only for students who will carry out an internship in Europe at companies, education and research centers, Italian Chambers of commerce abroad and some international organizations in one of the Countries participating in the program. The internships must have a minimum duration of 2 months artating from 1st June 2015 and have not to include a participation indemnity. For further information check the Career service web pages on the Bocconi website.

Internships are the principal and priority educational activities aimed at aiding students in the choice of a profession, however there are also other activities which are defined as "similar activities" to internships including:

• specialized work experience which have contracts that are different from those of internships. For example, temporary and permanent work positions. The rules already set for internships regarding duration, positioning and channels for finding such opportunities are applied to these experiences. In order to request the recognition students must, before or when the experience starts, send - via the Help&Contact procedure available on the yoU@B - copy of the contract signed with the company.
  The students will verify that the contract include the following information (or as an alternative he must provide it in attachment): name and company typology, field of the activity, number of employees, location, name and email address of a company reference person, period of the activity.
  The internship office will enter the information relating to the activity similar to the internship via the JoBGate and the student will have to request the advance authorization to the Program Director, by entering ‘My internships’ area and clicking on ‘Request internship recognition’.
  
  At the end of the minimum of the duration for the internship recognition, students must upload, on ‘My internship’ in the ‘Attachments area’, a short report including information on the type of experience and a declaration by the company certifying the presence of the student at the company in the period specified on the request of recognition. After appropriate assessment the Program Director will proceed with the final recognition in accordance with the procedure specified in paragraph 2.4.4 Internship recognition;

• in-the-field projects(Moot) The Moot is an international competition. The recognition is carried out on the basis of a list provided to the Internship Office by the director of the in-the-field projects including those students who intend to have this activity recognized as similar to the internship and have completed this experience.
• Research field project. Activity promoted by a professor where the student is involved exclusively in a research activity to be carried out at a research center or a Department of the Univeristy. Assuming that this activity is considered as a prt-time experience, the minimum duration for internship recognition is 16 weeks and the maximum is 6  months. The procedure for authorization and recognition is the same as for the internships (see 2.4.4 Internship recognition)

The student ar graduate who musy request a document specifying the conclusion of an  internship and can provide the address of the institution/company this document will be forwarded to, must access the Hel&Contact procedure on the yoU@B student Diary in order to request it and provide all useful information for the letterhed of the declarartion.

In order to obtain such declaration, students/graduate must be sure that the two evaluation sheets (by the company tutor and by the trainee) have been filled out or they must attach copy of the end of internship certificate issued by the host company/institution to the request. Please notice that for declaration on the curricular value of the internship, it must have already been recorded in the academic career when making the request. Such declaration is exempt from the duty stamp "bollo".

If a student or a graduate has been requested  to attach an enrolment/degree declaration to promote his application for an internship  by the company/institution selection procedure, can contact the Internship Office through the Help&Contact procedure available on the yoU@B Diary and address of the company/instituition this declaration must be addressed. This declaration is exempted from the duty stamp "bollo".

Internationalization at Università Bocconi has been a strategic priority pursued since 1974, the year in which the first international agreements were put into place. Over the years these programs have developed an extensive network of affiliations and exchanges with prestigious academic and cultural institutions all over the world, including the recent formation of a special network of partner institutions in the field of law. Constant collaboration between Bocconi and foreign universities on research and joint teaching projects provide Bocconi students and teaching staff with invaluable international experience. Thanks to its network of international affiliations, Università Bocconi is able to offer law students opportunities on a global scale.

Study programs abroad:

• Long programs (Exchange, Themis and Free-Mover Semester Programs);
• Short programs (Campus Abroad, Free-Mover Summer, Vis Moot, Telders Moot Programs).
  

All the international programs will be presented in detail during the Bocconi International Fair.

Exchange Program

The Università Bocconi "Exchange Program" (including the LLP-Erasmus Program) deals with student exchanges under bilateral agreements with many universities in the world, giving students the opportunity to attend courses for which they can receive credit as part of their Bocconi degrees.

There are about 50 School of Law included in the network which are specially addressed to the Integrated Master of Arts in Giurisprudenza [Law] and they are some of the most renowned institutions in the field of law.

The agreements are based on reciprocal arrangements that allow students from both institutions involved to complete a period of study abroad without paying extra university fees and tuition to the partner institution. Students are, however, responsible for travel, board and lodging expenses.

 
Eligibility and requirements

Students can take the semester abroad just one time during their fourth and fifth years. Therefore students regularly enrolled in the third or fourth year of the Combined Bachelor and Master of Science Program can apply.

Students are allowed to enrol in a semester abroad at one of the partner universities only if they pass the selection which is based on merit and language skills.

Exam recognition

Students can receive credit for a maximum of 5 courses.

Information

Eligibility and requirements
Students can take the semester abroad just one time during their fourth and fifth years. Therefore students regularly enrolled in the third or fourth year of the Integrated Master of Arts Program can apply.

Students are allowed to enrol in a semester abroad at one of the partner universities only if they pass the selection which is based on merit and language skills.

Università Bocconi has identified a number of schools, mainly members of its international network, that accepted such students in the past. The list of universities abroad will be published on the webpage at http://www.ir.unibocconi.eu/. This is the only list considered valid for the recognition of exams taken in schools abroad as part of the Free-Mover Semester Program.

Any other applications for alternatives must be examined individually beforehand by the Markets and External Affairs Division Study Abroad. The application, accompanied by a motivational letter and information about the chosen university, must be submitted to the Markets and External Affairs Division Study Abroad before enrolling at the foreign university for a Free-Mover Semester Program.

Among the opportunities offered to students enrolled in the last years of studies we outline the Themis Program. This program allows students to acquire an international certification released by the Themis network which, in addition to Università Bocconi, includes also Esade (Barcellona, Spain), Freie Universität (Berlin, Germany), Université Est Créteil Val de Marne, Paris (Parigi, Francia), Maastricht Law School (Maastricht, the Netherlands), Singapore Management University, School of Law (Singapore), WU Wien - Wien University of Economics and Business (Wien, Austria). The programme curriculum includes also an exchange experience at one of the partner institutions, a joint seminar realised at one of the network universities and an international internship.

The short programs offered by Università Bocconi give students the opportunity to spend a brief period of time abroad, combining educational activities with the exploration of new cultural, social and economic environments.

Campus Abroad Programs - generally held during the period in which lessons are suspended -are organized by Università Bocconi in collaboration with partner schools abroad and last about 3 weeks. The program includes a summer and a winter edition.

The programs aim to expose students to an international context by combining a Bocconi course with a series of "country specific" activities (seminars and visits to local companies and institutions).

Students are admitted after a selection based on merit requirements and language skills.

Exam recognition

The Campus Abroad exam is fully a Bocconi exam, follows all the univerisity rules and regualtion relating to the program structure and no "recognition procedure" is required. To have exams and program credit points registered in the academic career, students must pass the final exam and participate in both lessons and related activities.
Students are reminded that their participation in all activities and presence for the entire period of the program is compulsory.

Students taking part in international programs can apply for scholarships from ISU Bocconi (Student Assistance and Financial Aid) and the TCA - University Fees Office (for information about scholarships and application forms, make reference to ISU-Download Area.
