Course Objectives

The course aims at introducing students to the analytical perspective of intercultural studies, equipping them with a survey knowledge of their anthropological, historical, religious historical, literary, linguistic fundaments.

Course Content Summary

The core issue used to introduce the analytical perspective of intercultural studies will be that of the relationship between Western and Oriental world, as it has shaped and developed between XV-XX century. This relationship will be approached through the classical theories of Edward Said and through a comparison with Jack Goody's perspective. The course will then be arranged in seminaries with a strong experimental component and recurrent recourse to testimonies and  experts' interventions.

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods

The exam is oral; students can integrate the final grade with a brief written dissertation, scheduled with the teacher.
