Academic CV

Professor of Organization Theory and Design and Network Analysis at the Department of Management and Technology of Bocconi University. He has been leading the Claudio Demattè Research Division at SDA Bocconi School of Management (2006-2012) and then (2012-2016) the Department of Management and Technology. Currently he serves as Dean of SDA Bocconi. His research has looked at both when and how organizational actors should leverage greater connectivity within and across their boundaries to enhance performances. More precisely, he investigates how organizational architectures, organizational networks, inter-firm collaborations and their interplay make influence on organizational level outcomes. His work has been published in the top management journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Organization, Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management, Organization Studies, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, Journal of World Business, Strategy Science. His research at Bocconi University and SDA Bocconi has been awarded with several recognitions such as Award for Excellence in Research (2019, 2018, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008 and 2001), Award for Research Impact (2017), Best Paper at the Italian Conference of Organization Studies (2010, 2005, 2002), Award for Innovation in Executive Programs (2016), Best Teacher of the Year (2007, 2005, 2004). He serves the Editorial Board of Organization Science, Strategic Organization and Academy of Management Review.

 


Research areas

Prof. Soda research interests are broadly concerned with understanding how organizational architectures, interplays with organizational networks making influence on organizational level outcomes, where networks come from and how they evolve over time. He has also investigated how network analysis can be used to design effective organizations and firm governance. Broadly, themes that he has been researching include: Antecedents, mechanisms and forms of inter-firm networks; the performance implications of inter-organizational networks; the impact of time on the relationships between network structures and outcome; the genesis and dynamics of network structures; network approach to organizational design; co-evolution of meanings and network structures within organizational teams.
