20136 - ADVANCED MATHEMATICS FOR ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the ideas, the techniques and the mathematical methods that are in the use in the modern financial and economic theories.
- Linear Algebra.
- Metric Spaces.
- Normed vector Spaces.
- Abstract Equations.
- Contractions and Fixed Points.
- Calculus in Vector Spaces.
- Convex Analysis.
- Dynamic Programming.
The exam could be taken in one of these two following ways
- Two partial esams (in October and in January). The exam will be passed only if, at least, an average of 18 between the two partials and the grade of each partial is at leat 12.
- General exam (in January, February or September). The exam will be passed with a grade at least of 18.
- Lecture Notes on Advanced Mathemtatics, handouts cured by professors available online.
The course requires a thorough knowledge of content generally covered by the mathematics courses of the first year. In particular, the students are assumed to be familiar with some basic topics of linear algebra and differential calculus in one and several variables.
