The mission of this course is to explore the evolution in the role and nature of public and international organizations and the skills required as manager, economist or policy expert - in both sectors. The course provides a toolkit for GIO students including an introduction to recent trends in the professional opportunities and challenges in the GIO-specific professional areas (business-government relations, public organizations, international organizations and NGOs), an introduction to current geopolitical trends and how they influence the role of public and international organizations and some key soft skills to work in teams in a diverse and challenging environment.

- Acknowledging diversity and conducting successful team projects.
At the end of the course students are expected to recognize the changes in the role and nature of public and international organizations and the professional opportunities and challenges to work as manager, economist or policy expert - in both sectors. They should be also able to identify current geopolitical trends and explain how they influence the role of public and international organizations.
Analyse trends in geopolitics, to interpret the changes in the role of international and national organizations and to connect these to professional challenges and opportunities. They will also develop soft skills aimed at strengthening teamwork in diverse settings.

- Guest speaker's talks (in class or in distance)
- Interactive class activities (role playing, business game, simulation, online forum, instant polls)
- Guest speakers are GIO alumni selected to share with the students their own career path, the specificities of their professional tasks and environment and the basic skills needed for their role.
- Interactive class activities include a simulation 'diversity ice-breaking' aimed at developing soft-skill.

A take-home individual assignment (pass/fail) assesses the ability of students to reflect on the contents of the course and foster their “sense-making” analysis and interpretation of the lenses and concepts discussed and practiced in class.
