Mission e Programma sintetico
MISSION

  • Regressione lineare semplice e multipla. Stime e previsioni. Modelli con variabili esplicative qualitative. Scelta delle variabili rilevanti. Interazioni e trasformazioni.
  • Regressione logistica.

  • Lezioni frontali
  • Lezioni online
  • Esercitazioni (esercizi, banche dati, software etc.)
DETTAGLI

Accertamento in itinere Prove parziali Prova generale
  • Prova individuale scritta (tradizionale/online)
  •     x

    Mission & Content Summary
    MISSION

The management of the company cannot disregard nowadays a widespread and continuous (but at the same time careful and critical) use of data. For this reason, a student of this course, which aims to provide a comprehensive and integrated vision of accounting and budget issues, corporate finance and planning and management control, cannot miss a solid preparation in the quantitative area. The goal is to provide both a good methodological basis and an adequate analytical capacity applied to real data. In the first part of the course, therefore, statistical data analysis techniques are presented with the aim of explaining, interpreting and/or predicting phenomena of economic and business interest. Given the size and complexity of the databases that are encountered in the areas described, it is not possible to disregard the use of appropriate IT tools; for this reason, statistical software is widely used throughout the I part of the course. The second part of the course deals with the assessment of certain and uncertain cash flows and the determination of the price of options.

    CONTENT SUMMARY

Part I – Statistical tools for data analysis:

    • Description, visualization and analysis of data through the software R.
    • Simple and multiple linear regression. Estimates, predictions, interpretation. Models with categorical covariates. Tests on the coefficients of the model. Interactions and transformations. Multicollinearity issues.
    • Logistic regression. Interpretation of the coefficients estimates. Tests on the coefficients of the model. Evaluation of the quality of a model. Predictions.

Part II – Mathematical tools for data analysis:

    • Valuation of risk-free and risky cash flows.
    • Basic elements of option pricing.

    Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
    KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course student will be able to...
    • Understand mathematical and statistical analyses of economic and business phenomena.
    • Know the theoretical and operational tools required for the understanding and the implementation of such analyses.
    APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course student will be able to...
    • Deeply analyze and interpret economic and business phenomena, identifying and applying properly, even through the use of appropriate scientific software, suitable mathematical and statistical methodologies.

    Teaching methods

    DETAILS

Exercise sessions devoted to the analysis of economic and business data are proposed; to this aim the software R is widely used. Students are required to take an active part in the analysis.

    Assessment methods

    ATTENDING AND NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS

The general exam consists of two BBoard tests. The first test (with Lockdown-Respondus) has a maximum score of 100, the second test (without Lockdown-Respondus) has a maximum score of 50. The final grade of the exam is obtained through a suitable normalisation of the sum of the two scores.

The first test is 40 minute long and requires the use of Respondus Lockdown Browser. It consists of  multiple choice questions, essay questions and  calculated formula questions (questions with a numeric answer). Half  of the  questions are on the first part of the course (Statistics) for a maximum score of 50, and the remaining questions  are on the second part of the course (Mathematics), for a maximum score of 50. In the Statistics questions of this first test, you do not need  RStudio (or R), however you might be asked to interpret R software outputs.

The second test is 20 minute long, it consists only of questions on the first part of the course (Statistics). This test does not require the use of Respondus Lockdown Browser. The test consists of  multiple choice questions, essay questions and calculated formula questions. For this second test you need to use RStudio (or R).
