Prerequisiti

Un prerequisito utile, al fine di ottimizzare il processo di apprendimento durante il corso di Brand Management, è aver seguito un corso di Marketing Base e/o Economia e Gestione delle Imprese durante il corso Triennale.


Mission e Programma sintetico
MISSION

Il corso analizza il processo di gestione strategica della marca, finalizzato allo sviluppo nel tempo del suo valore (brand equity). In particolare, vengono approfondite le decisioni chiave per attivare, generare e sviluppare questo fondamentale asset d’impresa. La generazione della brand equity implica la definizione del posizionamento e dei valori della marca, nonché la costruzione delle sue componenti cognitive e identificative (brand identity, brand awareness e brand image). Lo sviluppo della brand equity presuppone la definizione di coerenti strategie di marca e il corretto utilizzo di brand elements e delle associazioni secondarie, oltre che una chiara definizione delle strategie di marca in ottica di portafoglio, gerarchia, architecture, e sviluppo nel tempo. Infine, l’utilizzo di un sistema di misurazione della brand equity ne permette un continuo monitoraggio considerando la marca quale vettore di crescita nel business attuale e in nuove combinazioni prodotto/mercato (Brand Extension).

  • Argomentare modalità e strategie atte a definire ruoli dei brand in portfolio, categorie di estensione potenziali, livelli gerarchici su cui far leva, rivitalizzazione o rafforzamento delle fonti del valore.
  • Sviluppare un Progetto di Brand Management seguendone l'intero percorso o defininedone e ri-definendone le strategie più adatte.

DETTAGLI

Durante il corso, oltre alle lezioni frontali, sono svolte le seguenti attività:

  • Quattro testimonianze in aula  svolte da manager o imprenditori di aziende operanti in diversi settori (FMCG, BtoB, Servizi, Entertainement, Fashion, etc.) in merito ai temi del Brand Management. Tali interventi permettono di cogliere la specificità che il raggiungimento della Brand Equity basata sul consumatore possiede nonché le differenti modalità attraverso cui raggiungerla e difenderla.
  • Tre casi di studio, in gran parte riferiti a marche italiane ed europee, attraverso cui applicare direttamente i metodi appresi in aula. 
  • Un assignment di gruppo che consiste nella realizzazione di un Progetto di Brand Management applicato ad una o più marche, che richiedono un approccio sistematico e innovativo ad uno o più ambiti/argomenti sviluppati durante il corso (lancio di un nuovo brand: brand building; utilizzo di alcuni strumenti più consoni all'equity di marca; la consonanza percettiva perseguibile attraverso alcuni eventi o testimonial, etc.). Il Progetto è molto utile per mettere in condizione gli studenti di applicare le principali conoscenze analitiche e gestionali sviluppate durante il corso.

    STUDENTI FREQUENTANTI

    Le modalità di valutazione sono basate su due elementi:

    • Progetto sul campo: 50%
    • Esame finale: 50%

    Il Progetto di Brand Management viene applicato ad una o più marche, su ambiti e argomenti sviluppati durante il corso. Il Progetto è valutato da una giuria di cui fanno parte brand manager e imprenditori delle marche studiate e gli studenti sono valutati in base alle capacità di applicare le principali conoscenze analitiche e gestionali sviluppate durante il corso.

    L'esame viene svolto in forma scritta. Esso è composto da alcune domande aperte riferite a casi, testimonianze e relativi concetti, modelli e strumenti presentati e discussi durante il corso. Si vogliono valutare sia le capacità applicative delle conoscenze apprese durante il corso dai discenti sia verificare l'apprendimento delle conoscenze analitiche e gestionali e la loro corretta comprensione.

    STUDENTI NON FREQUENTANTI

    La modalità di valutazione per gli studenti non frequentanti è fondata su un esame finale svolto in forma scritta. Esso è composto da alcune domande aperte riferite ai concetti e ai casi contenuti nei testi di riferimento. Si vogliono valutare le capacità applicative delle conoscenze apprese durante lo studio dei libri di testo nonché verificare l'apprendimento delle conoscenze analitiche e gestionali e la loro corretta comprensione.

    Prerequisites

    In order to optimize the learning process during the Brand Management course, students are recommended to have a Basic Marketing and/or Management course during their Bachelor of Science program.


    Mission & Content Summary
    MISSION

    The course focuses on how to build and manage a brand based on the concept of Customer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE). This course offers students competences and capabilities on how to create and manage a brand over time using both traditional marketing mix tools and brand specific tools. In the first part students learn how to apply the concept of CBBE to real world problems in order to create a brand, understand a brand’s positioning using tools to measure brand perception, and identify appropriate tools to manage a brand based on the 4 P’s. The second part of the course focuses on how to manage a brands over time, with a particular focus on brand and product extensions, as well as the measurement of brand equity, and the management of brands in the digital era.

    CONTENT SUMMARY
    • Customer Based Brand Equity, focusing on how to measure customer based brand equity, how is it composed, what are the different measures that are provided by companies such as Young and Rubicam, and also talk about academic research on brand equity.
    • Brand positioning, tools for measuring brand perception such as perceptual maps.
    • Designing marketing program to build brand equity, how to use the 4Ps to build brand equity.
    • Brand extensions and naming new products, new products and product ideation in terms of innovation and brand extension.
    • Brand equity measurement, focusing on conjoint analysis as a tool on how to measure brand equity.
    • Brands in a digital era, is the the brand management changing? given the current change in media particularly given the rise of social media.

    DETAILS

    The course has:

    1. Face-to-face lectures.
    2. Guest speaker's talks (in-class or in distance) coming from different industries. These talks allow students to understand the differences coming from different industries and different management. 
    3. Theories and/or case studies discussions (in-class or in distance) dealing with analysis of several giuded cases on different methods of managing Brands and oral presentations of individual/group assignments.
    4. Group assignment that consists of a Project on Brand Management applyed to one or more brands of a portfolio for developing a consistent approach to the brands using the connected methodologies studied during the course.

    ATTENDING STUDENTS

    Assessment methods are based on two elements:

    • Field Project: 50%
    • Final Exam: 50%

    The Brand Management Project is applied to one or more brands, according with the topics developed during the course. The project is assessed by a panel of brand managers and entrepreneurs who select the bests on the basis of the students' ability to apply the main analytical and management knowledge.

    The exam is held in written form. It is made up of some open-ended questions referring to cases, talks and related concepts, models and tools presented and discussed in class. The questions are aimed at veryfing learning of the analytical and management abilities and their correct comprehension, and at assessing the ability to apply the knowledge students learn during the course. 

    NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS

    The assessment method for non-attending students is based on final exam in written form. It is made up of some open-ended questions referring to the concepts, models and cases contained in the textbooks.
    The questions are aimed at veryfing learning of the analytical and management abilities and their correct comprehension, and at assessing the ability to apply the knowledge students learned when studying the textbooks.
