Mission & Content Summary
MISSION
The mission of this course is to explore current developments in the role and nature of public and international organizations and the skills required as manager, economist or policy expert - in both sectors. The course provides a toolkit for GIO students including an introduction to recent trends in the professional opportunities and challenges in the GIO-specific professional areas (business-government relations, public organizations, international organizations and NGOs), an introduction to current geopolitical trends and how they influence the role of public and international organizations, together with key soft skills to work in teams in a diverse and challenging environment.

At the end of the course student will be able to...
- Analyse trends in geopolitics, to interpret the changes in the role of international and national organizations and to connect these to professional challenges and opportunities.
- Develop soft skills aimed at strengthening teamwork in diverse settings.
Teaching methods
- Face-to-face lectures
- Guest speaker's talks (in class or in distance)
- Interactive class activities on campus/online (role playing, business game, simulation, online forum, instant polls)
DETAILS
- Guest speakers are GIO alumni selected to share with the students their own career path, the specificities of their professional tasks and environment and the basic skills needed for their role.
- Interactive class activities include a simulation 'diversity ice-breaking' aimed at developing soft-skill.

ATTENDING AND NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS
A take-home individual assignment (pass/fail) assesses the ability of students to reflect on the contents of the course and foster their “sense-making” analysis and interpretation of the lenses and concepts discussed and practiced in class.
Attendance is mandatory. Please contact via email the course responsible in advance if you can't attend.
