I am associate professor at the Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management at Bocconi University. Since 2017 I am Director of Research for Government; Government, Health and Non profit Division, SDA Bocconi School of Management. From 2012 to 2016 I was also Director of the Public Management and Policy Department at SDA Bocconi School of Management. Our faculty consists of 85 members and about 60 experts.  We carry out influential research on public and health care management issues and provide post-graduate master programs and executive education.
I have been coordinating the Master of Science of Economics and Management of Public Administration and International Institutions of the Bocconi Graduate School from 2004 to 2013 and have had the chance to interact with many talented people currently engaging in professional careers in governments, health care organizations, private sector providers, NGOs and international institutions.
Since 2016 I am Honorary Fellow with the Business School of the University of Edinburgh.

I have been teaching at undergraduate and graduate level at Bocconi University and in other institutions, including University of Geneva (MBA in International Organizations - ICT for managers); Erasmus University Rotterdam (Master of Health Information Management - Module of Project Management); School of Management of the University of London at Royal Holloway (MBA - International Public Management).
My teaching includes E-health, E-government strategies, Innovation and consulting in the public sector, Public Management for Competitiveness, Microeconomics of Competitiveness (in affiliation with HBS), Basics of Public Management, Management and provision of public services.

My area of research focuses on innovation in the public sector and ehealth.
As part of my research activities on innovation I have working on three main steams of research: determinants of adoption, project management for innovation and evaluation of innovation results.  Lately I have been involved by the OECD to support them with a technical paper in the launch of the Observatory of Public Sector Innovation. I am currently member of the OECD Associate Group of the Observatory of Public Sector Innovation.

As part of my research on ehealth I have been focusing mainly on enterprise resource planning (ERP) and electronic medical (and patient) record (EMR and EPR) adoption.  In the past four years I have been working mainly on the development and fine tuning of a framework to evaluate EMR implementation. This framework is multi-dimensional and multi-stakeholder and aims at capturing effects of EMR on organizational performance.  It is designed to be easy to use and facilitate benchmark of results, regardless of the status of EMR implementation and the degree of complexity of the health care organization.  The framework has been applied to multiple sites in Italy, Catalona (Spain) and Scotland.  I am currently working on a framework to measure EPR outcomes at health care system level.

My work has been published both in domestic and international outlets, as Public Administration, Public Management Review and Governance; Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis, International Journal of Public Sector Management, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. Together with two colleagues, I wrote two books on ehealth (Buccoliero L. Caccia C. Nasi G. (2002) Il sistema informativo automatizzato delle aziende sanitarie, McGraw HIll; Buccoliero L. Caccia C. Nasi G. (2005)  E-HealthPercorsi di implementazione dei sistemi informativi in sanità, McGraw HIll) that are practical guides for Italian Chief Information Officers.
