Course Objectives
Cultural creolizations, fragmentation of roles and appurtenances, social negotiation of meanings have all reshaped social and economic contexts, infusing new vitality into consumer studies. The Consumer Culture Theory (CCT) perspective stems out as a complementary framework of the traditional cognitive studies on consumption. The thick analysis over consumers symbolism and experience complements the attention for consumers decision making and post-purchase evaluation. The clinical observation of consumption is surpassed by an exploration of consumption in its contexts: marketplaces, points of sale, dwellings, social networks. Postpositivist certainty is overcome by meaning negotiation and epistemological/methodological postmodern eclectism. As a result, a fresh and renewed picture of postmodern consumer is offered, supporting through innovative insights the strategic and operative decisions of contemporary marketing managers.
