Course Objectives
The course addresses innovation, competition and growth both from a macroeconomic and from a microeconomic perspective. It covers the theories and models of economic growth, with an emphasis on the interaction between innovation and competition and on their role in explaining economic growth. The course also addresses questions related to industrial development and the role of institutions.
During the lectures, models presented are confronted with data and emphasis is given to the role of public policy in fostering innovation, achieving the benefits of tougher competition and designing appropriate institutional frameworks.
