8261 - MANAGEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Le Istituzioni Internazionali sono state oggetto di studio di diverse discipline, tra cui le scienze giuridiche, l'economia politica e la scienza politica. Secondo questi diversi approcci scientifici, le Istituzioni Internazionali sono state spesso descritte come "scatole nere", o in un'ottica meccanicistica, o ancora come oggetti di alleanze nei quali potere ed influenze contrastanti tra le diverse coalizioni di interessi rappresentano le sole variabili rilevanti. Al contrario, poca attenzione e' stata dedicata allo studio dei loro aspetti organizzativi e manageriali ed all'analisi della conoscenza manageriale e degli strumenti necessari per favorire il raggiungimento di una performance piu' soddisfacente. Nello scenario attuale, fattori quali la crescente vastita' e complessita' dei compiti, la scarsita' delle risorse, le critiche da parte dei governi e della societa' civile rendono urgente e necessaria una valutazione delle risorse manageriale ed una riforma delle Istituzioni Internazionali. Al fine di colmare questa lacuna e fornire un quadro complessivo del tema, il corso si focalizzera' sia sugli aspetti politici che su quelli manageriali della gestione delle Istituzioni Internazionali, in quattro parti specifiche: (1) le politiche del settore pubblico internazionale; (2) il management delle Istituzioni Internazionali; (3) il management dei progetti di sviluppo; (4) le politiche ed il management dell'Unione Europea.

 Part IV: the politics and management of the European Union

• The European Union: history and developments
• The European Union: institutions and political functioning
• Implementing EU policies: the EU Commission and the EU decentralized agencies
• The managerial reform of the EU Commission
• The EU and foreign aid
  

Learning assessment is a key component of the course pedagogic. For this reason, it relies on an array of methods including:

• mid-course and final course written exam
• one group assignment
• one individual assignment.

Students are required to prepare a variety of reading materials, including a selection of chapters from the course textbook:

• Additional, required reading materials are to be prepared and retrieved as specified in the course syllabus and/or throughout the course.
