Course Objectives

This course introduces students to the main elements of organizational behaviour and organization theory relevant for understanding and managing organizational processes and structures, in a problem solving oriented fashion. Specifically,  students learn about: human behavior in organized contexts - decision making, motivation, communication; coordination modes - e.g. authority, teams, negotiation, rules; the organization of work; the organization of the firm.


Course Content Summary
  • Organizational behavior: cognition, motivation, learning, decision making.
  • Organizational coordination: communication, negotiation, teaming, authority and agency, rules and norms.
  • Organizational structures: the organization of work, the internal structure of the firm, interfirm networks.

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods

The exam is unique for attending and non attending students. It consists in a written test, evaluated in 30 points:

  • A written test including conceptual questions and at least one case analysis question. The relevant parts of the text are those indicated in the Syllabus

The exam can be taken in any exam session. The exam will be structured in two parts according to course structure. Students judging their preparation sufficient to take the partial test during the course can do so, and the grade so obtained , if sufficient, will contribute to form the final grade for 50% (simple average with the grade obtained in the second part/question in any official exam session)

The grade obtained in the written exam may be increased up to 2 points for distinguished class participation.

Points gained for class participation and in intermediate tests expire 30th Sept 2011.
