Course Objectives

To study technology starting from the solution of specific problems.
The objective of the course is to provide students with advanced operating competencies in the use of Information Technology (IT), in such a way as to use available technologies in order to find solutions to problems to be  faced during universities studies and future jobs.
The didactic method is innovative and oriented to problem solving: starting from a set of problems with increasing difficulty, we will seek to resolve them using the potentialities of appropriate information technology tools.

Course Content Summary

The first part of the course is dedicated to analyzing the fundamental concepts of  problem solving and problem setting. In the second part of the course some problems and scenarios are given, all of which are analyzed in detail. A graphical representation is provided and the possible solutions introduced. Once the problems have been defined, the next step is choosing the proper IT tool to resolve them, e.g.: the advanced management of datas, formulas and functions, pivot tables, dynamic crosstabs, scenarios. Finally the macros and basic instructions of VBA are analyzed.

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods

The exam will consist of two separate parts: partial exams and final exam.
Partial exams are scheduled for students who attend lessons regularly, since they refer to topics discussed in class.
The final exam is scheduled for those students who have not either taken or passed the partial exams and it refers to the complete course bibliography.
In both cases, the exam is written.
In order to take the exam it is necessary that students have received one of the certifications recognized by the University (complete ECDL certification, complete ECDL advanced certification, IC3 2005 plus, MOS master). Any certifications must be handed in at SEDIN within the deadlines published on the website http://www.unibocconi.it/sedin.
Students who do not have any certifications yet can obtain it through the Bocconi ECDL test center.
