Course Objectives
This course provides students with the frameworks to understand the complexity of decision-making processes in public sector, with a focus on implications due to different governance models, multiple stakeholders, administrative red tape, public-private relationships, increasingly liquid borders between politics and management. The course provides also tools, competences and skills to design effective governance models and decision-making processes to support strategic choices of public interest and/or relevance.

Course Content Summary
The course is built around the following topics
  • Evolution in state models/paradigms and governance models.
  • Decision-making in public systems with specific focus to those characterized by wicked issues and high need of inter-institutional cooperation.
  • Typologies of governance models.
  • Public governance in international organizations.
  • Design and organization of inter-institutional network.
  • The course also includes discussion of case studies, case histories and a groupwork.
