Obiettivi formativi del corso

Il corso intende offrire una ricostruzione storica dello sviluppo economico che si è realizzato tra il XV e il XX secolo. L’attenzione verrà focalizzata sui fattori - demografia, ambiente, istituzioni e gerarchie sociali che sono stati determinanti nel promuovere il processo di industrializzazione e la crescita della ricchezza sperimentati dalle economie occidentali e sull'analisi delle ragioni del divario che separa i paesi ricchi dai paesi poveri.

Il corso si propone di fornire allo studente gli strumenti per comprendere la complessità dello sviluppo economico studiato in prospettiva storico-comparativa.

L'esame è in forma scritta.
Gli studenti possono scegliere di sostenere l’esame in due prove intermedie, le cui modalità e condizioni di validità sono specificate nel patto d'aula o in un’unica prova generale.

Course Objectives

The course offers an overview of the economic development from the 15th century to the present times by focusing on the factors - environment, population patterns, institutions, and social hierarchies- which have been decisive in fuelling the industrialization process and the wealth increase experienced by Western economies and on the reasons explaining the disparity of wealth among nations.

The course aims at providing student with the tools and methods for understanding the economic development in long term and comparative perspective.

Written Exam. Students may choose to sit a sequence of two partial exams, or sit one general exam.
