Obiettivi formativi del corso
Il corso intende offrire competenze di base in tema di funzionamento dei mercati finanziari, di metodi di analisi degli investimenti finanziari e di profili gestionali delle banche e degli altri intermediari finanziari. L’analisi, che tiene conto degli assetti normativi e regolamentari del contesto italiano, vuole consentire agli studenti di comprendere i principali elementi che caratterizzano il comportamento dei soggetti che operano nel sistema finanziario (investitori, intermediari, fornitori di servizi finanziari, autorità di vigilanza).

Comprendere i principali problemi che derivano dal ruolo svolto all'interno del sistema economico dalle banche, dalle altre istituzioni finanziarie e dai mercati finanziari.

Consentire agli studenti di comprendere i principali elementi che caratterizzano il comportamento dei soggetti che operano nel sistema finanziario (investitori, intermediari, fornitori di servizi finanziari, Autorita' di vigilanza), tenendo conto degli assetti normativi e regolamentari del contesto italiano.

- Il sistema finanziario: la struttura e le funzioni.
- I mercati e gli strumenti finanziari.
- Gli investimenti finanziari: metodi di analisi e di valutazione.
- La regolamentazione del sistema finanziario.
- Le banche e gli intermediari finanziari non bancari: modelli di business, strategie, profili di gestione.
- Gli investitori istituzionali (fondi comuni di investimento, compagnie di assicurazione, fondi pensione).

Gli esami si svolgono in forma scritta. Gli studenti, senza alcuna distinzione tra frequentanti e non frequentanti, possono optare per il sostenimento delle prove parziali.

Course Objectives
The main objective of this course is to provide the students with a general understanding of the different functions performed by financial markets and institutions and their role in the economic system. We start by giving a brief overview of the functions of the financial system and its connections to the real economy. We then study the functioning of financial markets and the main financial instruments. Finally, we study the economics of different types of financial institutions.

Course Content Summary
The first part of the course analyzes in detail the characteristics of the major financial assets, and describes the institutional characteristics of the markets in which these assets are traded. The second part of the course studies in detail the objectives as well as the organization of the major financial intermediaries (commercial banks, investment banks, mutual funds) that allow to match demand and supply of funds when securities markets do not function perfectly.
Detailed Description of Assessment Methods
There will be two written exams: a partial exam around the second half of October (tbd) and a cumulative general exam (based on the material covered during the whole course) on December (tbd) (the following general exam after that will take place on January, tbd).
There will be no second partial exam; all students must take the general exam.
