Course Objectives

In advanced economies, Information Technologies are more than half of total capital expenditures of companies; they often mobilize important assets and are the basis for implementing new strategic directions. Moreover, IT resources are a fundamental part of the infrastructure that enables the networked nature of modern organizations. As a consequence, the governance of IT results to be a strategic management issue that is on top of the agenda of senior executives. Managing such crucial resources requires a deep understanding of how company cultures and organizational environment are ready to digest these innovations, in order to guarantee an high impact on company performance. IT management entails also using cloud systems, and outsourcing and offshoring of IT resources: they are part of these governance decisions as well, and they also impact on performance, setting the basis for different kinds of managerial skills and attitudes.  The course highlights, through the analysis of business cases, the underpinnings of IT management issues that help to explain:

  • the best practices of high performing organizations;
  • the failures and recovery plans needed by the low performing cases.

  • Translating competitive strategies into IT asset evaluations: understanding IT acceptance in organizations.
